Living in a stone house, in a village that is mostly hundreds of years old. Footpaths and access to the countryside - with my dog. Churches. Stately homes. Having an intelligent conversation....

Regrets? None. This was brought home to me last week, sitting under an umbrella in the rain at the local "proms" concert, in a stunning garden. So classically, quintessentially british, no screaming...

We did it at Hoek van Holland ferry terminal; they were very efficient and quick. When we got to the UK we walked straight through.

Yes - we flew into Amsterdam then took trains and ferry to UK. It was quite hard work but a special experience, will never forget sitting little dog on my lap on the last leg of the train journey and...

Derbyshire, and yes I lived there before for a few years. Chosen for proximity to rellies rather than on its own merits, but I'm surprised at how much more I appreciate it now than I ever did then.

Leaving without giving notice, even at the end of a six month tenancy, is not advisable. Something to do with the implied rollover to a month-to-month contract, and if the owners/agents are not...

Yes, when I first arrived back. Had to provide proof of some form of income and/or savings, lack of job not an issue though I had to pay the first two months up front. Good luck!

Quick note on entering the UK with a valid overseas passport and an expired UK one - I've done this more than once and never had problems. The only downside is having to wait in the (slowwwww)...
