I can get a rate of $1.61 with a Currency Exchange Company, (we only got $1.54 when we first came over in 2013 and then $1.74 in 2014. Such a gamble knowing when is the right time to jump!!

Yes you do need to do a tax return,. We rented our property when we first moved over to Canada and had to complete tax returns even though the income didn't reach the tax limit.
