No tax on personal cash transfers

I see that the thread on this has been closed at the request of someone who we might guess.

Needless to say Poyanna is right but professionals who use the forum for attracting business should be...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Thanks but you prove the point.
It is resolved for me but I suspect you leave many others in doubt.
Also noted that you cannot show me anything in writing to prove your argument.

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Alan

Sure we are getting nowhere now but I have also had the same advice as Jumbo having now escalated the question through the ATO to be sure.

But despite the fact that the ATO say in...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Its interesting that Alan, who has made many good and useful posts on this forum, will not admit that he has dropped off on this one. He should have said all along that he was not sure about tax on...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

There are many but here's one for starters from your post on 21 July 2005

"Don't forget that once you are a tax resident of Australia any currency you held on arrival other than A$'s is a CGT...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Alan

Do you mean to say that people have been paying you to advise them that cgt tax may be due on personal cash transfers?

You normally only see things in writing where for instance tax needs...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

With respect you are not the person to judge whether you have mislead people. I know for a fact that others have been mislead. The trouble is that when people express views on this forum others...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Well done Jumbo you have confirmed my own experience with ATO. Alan has mislead many of us who have transferred money to Oz - albeit unintentionally - and as he says with carefully chosen words. ...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

I think that since the ATO will not define "private nature" you can defend your own interpretation. You may note that the same words were used in your PR as in the PR that Alan Collet sited. So...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Thanks for all the detail! It would seem that you will be taxed one way or another through forex gain(income) or cgt. If through cgt it would be advantageous to delay any cash transfers (if...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

Hi

The odd thing is that this is not what the ATO are telling me and others who have posted on this. Is it possible that you could send me a PM of relevant copy of your ruling or references to...

Re: Tax on funds transfered after you move

The ATO says that there would be no tax consequences for transferring your own personal cash unless you bought say A$ then resold back to £gbp (or vice versa) and made a gain or loss.

Re: Warning HIFX charges

Having spoken to HIFX they say it is my banks fault and nothing to do with them and that I should take up the matter with my bank. They are not going refund the charges I have incurred but which...

Re: Warning HIFX charges

You are correct!
I've checked my transfers against the contract notes and each one has arrived short by $A 10> HIFX must be making extra profit aver their margin by this.

Looking after PSS when packing?

We’ve got PSS coming to pack and ship soon. Did their packers expect feeding or just the usual cups of tea etc? Also did they expect a tip? And if so how much did you give?

Cheers

Re: Capital Gains dilemma - for Alan Collett or experts

Thanks for the reference but I'm still left with whether I would be liable for two capital gains taxes on the same disposal. I guess I could at least avoid the Oz bill by pleading the double...

Re: Capital Gains dilemma - for Alan Collett or experts

I think Jumbo has raised an interesting point irrespective of the amounts involved. It is the general principal which should be addressed.

But you shouldn’t need to pay twice because of the...
