Westpac told us the 30% deposit was standard policy for new immigrants on a owner occupied property and the advertised stuff didn't apply. It may be because we are americans. :)

This is where the you have to be careful on advice in the forums... appliances from the US won't be selling on TradeMe as they dont work here so when someone says "bring everything" you have to ask...

We moved from the US back in November so will try to answer a few of your questions based on our experience.

School year starts in end of January or beginning of February and ends mid December....

The ones I have seen are:

HSBC - in Auckland and in the US
Some form of Citibank in Auckland and US


There may be others but all the US banks I researched were charging terrible rates and...

Westpac told us they have a strick policy of 30% down payment. Went to ASB and found they were happy with 20% down even though we are on Long Term Business Visa which means self employed. ASB really...
