I can only quote my situation, I'm a single truck mechanic, in Oxfordshire I could only afford to lodge or rent a flat. I've been in NZ for just over 18 months and I've bought my first home :)...

I have a single through the wall fan to get airflow into my bedroom, I just give it a blast before bed and it gets the heat to where I want it.

Took the old coal fire out and got a big heatpump fitted, I don't have the time to light a woodburner and the new ones can't be banked up to run overnight unless you are in a rural area.

Hello Graham, a bit of inside info from a truck mechanic in south canterbury.
