Re: Re moving back as a British citizen

A full British passport has the words 'European Union' and 'United Kingdom' on the front, whilst other types of British passport merely have 'British Passport' on the front. The precise styling of...

Re: Re moving back as a British citizen

If the passport is still valid, then yes, no problem. If it is not still valid, then finding out from your nearest British Embassy or Consulate whether or not you can renew it (i.e. whether you are...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

All right, final up-date. I went with my wife to the Consulate last Thursday afternoon and explained the mistake. The staff were very apologetic, took my wife's passport and promised to get it back...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

Really? Oh, well that's not too bad, then. I had been led to believe that my wife would have needed to have had spousal ILE for 3 years.

Still think we should get it corrected, though. Are there...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

I know. The British Consulate in Hong Kong gives you 'phone number for Shanghai (where visa advice is generic and quite often delivered by LE staff with quite poor spoken English (had to use a fair...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

Thanks, guys. It is good to have got the 'ILE' decision, and I'm glad about that. Will definitely 'phone the VAC in Manila, and also go back to the Consulate in Hong Kong this afternoon to ask them...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

One problem we've found is that my wife will be eligible to apply for naturalisation after having lived in the UK for three years, only if she is the spouse or civil partner of a UK citizen (me). As...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

Yes, it has the 'Indefinite leave to enter the UK' bit. No problem there.

It really is just the difference between 'Spouse/CP' and 'to join/acc partner'.

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

Well, I've sent off an e-mail to the VAC in Manila. Not happy about this at all. Wife's letter of application clearly stated that she was applying under rules 281 and 282, and that she should get...

Re: Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

Just reading around the subject on other pages (like this (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/policyandlaw/IDIs/idischapter8/section9/section9.pdf?view=Binary) one), I think the...

Got our visa! Not quite what we were expecting...

Hi All. With a big thanks to these boards and their knowledgable regulars, my wife just got her ILE, today. It is, however, different from what we were expecting.

We wrote on her appilcation that...

Re: UK Spouse Visa Information - evidence required etc

We went through the same thing. On-line results fairly soon, but official piece of paper takes months. The Certificated BULATS Online is the fastest that I know of, but BULATS tests business English...

Re: UK Spouse Visa Information - evidence required etc

This is exactly the same headache as my wife and I just had. We had been told categorically by the consulate in Shanghai that the 'Life in the UK' test didn't count for the language part of the...

Re: UK Spouse Visa Information - evidence required etc

Yes, as soon as he has whatever residential evidence is required by his local test centre, he can sit the test. Thereafter it is not so much a question of applying for ILR as it is one of getting ILR...

Re: Continuing ILR validity?

If the ILR hasn't been questioned so far on any of your regular 'holiday' visits, then is there any reason to suspect that it will be questioned at the border this time? If not, say nothing, enter...

Re: UK Spouse Visa Information - evidence required etc

It is also possible that the Easter recess will push back the implementation of plans, a bit. But the changes do not require a Bill. The Government simply needs to lay a 'statement of changes' before...

Re: UK Spouse Visa Information - evidence required etc

My wife and I are going through this right now. We submitted my wife's paperwork last week, together with cover letter requesting the ILE endorsement, and if this proves successful then I will be...

Re: My question about IELTS

Your IELTS score is valid for two years. A second IELTS score attained within that two-year period does not nulify or invalidate the first. Neither, in fact, would the Cambridge examining body...

Re: Language requirement under 281(i)(b)(ii)?

Heck, if it means we can get the visa before the rules change, we'd be happy to move by Easter. Or at least, fly back at Easter and start arranging furniture and popping in to see some recruitment...

Re: Language requirement under 281(i)(b)(ii)?

Re: Language requirement under 281(i)(b)(ii)?

Really? Oh, why can't they get their act together and all agree on what rules they're following??? The girl in Shanghai, yesterday, was adamant. This is why I'm losing my hair.

We've got a TOEIC...
