Sorry - I was not making myself clear. The 50 THB is the surcharge for taking the taxi from the official airport taxi rank. If you pay this, the driver will probably put on his meter as you are...

50 Baht is about $1.5, but when you get a taxi at the offical taxi rank they (nearly) always put on their meter, so cost into central Bangkok should be around 250 Baht, plus Expressway fee of 45 Baht...

You need to plan on being wothout a valid passport, as your old one is cancelled when you apply for the new one. But it only took a week for me.

I use the Airport Link and Sky Train whenever I travel wqithout luggage. But if you have luggage, the escalators, stairs and wide gap betwwen train and platform can be tricky.
