Re: Great books on Spain

The latest updated print edition was 2006.
Agreed, a good insight.

I have built up quite a collection over the years of various books on Spain & would recommend any of these:

Re: PG Tips

We're going to Alicante for a week mid April with Inmserso. Might miss some of their day trips, such as Ontinyent, Denia & go to Benidorm for the day.
Would the Iceland there sell things like pork...

Re: Spanish Civil War - Alicante

Many thanks Spainrico.
By coincidence, we're booked with Inmserso to Alicante next month. I'll check the museum trips out.

PS: For those who might not know what Inmserso is, it's an organisation...

Re: Padron yes or no?

I have an 'OAP' bus pass which can be used for Bizkaibus, Bilbao Metro & trams. You have to be a 'pensioner' & fares are ridiculously cheap....eg 65 centimos from where we live to Bilbao (40kms).

Re: Confused by the fried egg sign?

I have a copy of a "highway code" in Spanish, called Manual 3 by Pons editorial.
I bought it a few years ago; it's in Spanish and probably still available. Try amazon.es

Re: Monty Don - Spanish Gardens

Many thanks.
We don't get BBC iplayer, but I saw some of the clips of the programme on the computer.

I have an interesting book called "Hidden gardens of Spain" by Eduardo Mencos, and which...

Re: Right Direction

Yes, as Missile said, the 'where' in Spain is important.
I wouldn't recommend the various costas, tempting though they might be for a sunny break, because you'll either hear an Andaluz accent, or...

Farmers' protests

We've been in the Aragon province this week and three times have been held up because of farmers driving their tractors in a long line at about 10kph.
Nevertheless they are right in my opinion....

Re: Toast and tomato

Here it's fairly common, especially in larger cities like Bilbao. I did once get served toast with 2 thinly sliced tomatoes, otherwise you get the sidecup of tomato pulp.
I always ask for crushed...

Re: Thinking of retiring in Spain

Hi Brendan
I can answer the easy question about bread.
It comes in all sorts of sizes, shapes & textures. Much is similar to the French style, baguette, but each region also has its own. Most is...

Re: PG Tips

I only buy loose tea; can't stand tea bags!
I buy a 1.5kg bag from an Indian/Pakistani shop. They always have a plentiful supply, including tea bags if you prefer.

Voting rights in UK after 15 years

A friend has just sent me a message saying that the 15 year rule after which one is not allowed to vote in UK elections has been abolished.
Is it true?
I've seen nothing in the press about it.

Re: The end of the ITV sticker....

You're right, pathetic complaints. A bit of white spirit gets rid of any residual mess from the sticker.
I was going to mention about not having a mobile, but you beat me to it.
I have an old one,...

Re: Pesticides

The rules came in several years ago in Spain about buying agro-chemicals in large amounts, eg 5l.
There was even talk about not being able to buy slug pellets, but one still can!
As Fred said, you...

Re: Is 4.6kw enough to cover a new 2 bed apartment in Isla Canela?

I'd say go for the higher one, as Snikpoh said.
We have no aircon needed here n the north, but at 4.6kw if we have all 3 hob rings on as well as the oven for a roast dinner, it trips.
If you had...

Re: Spain agrees to build 10 trains for GB

I daresay he is.
I'd like to think that Spain could also teach Britain how to run a railway system, with affordable prices.

Re: Train travel revolution benefits Spain

The same for Euskadi. Too many mountains in the way.
It's quicker to Madrid from Bilbao by Alsa coach. And by the time the TAV (high speed train) is completed, we'll probably be too old to travel.

Re: Got the reading bug again...does anybody know...

It depends on what you like to read. Thumbing through a book I find gives you instant access better than an e-book. And on your shelf, even though they take up room, you know where they are...
