Re: Supermarket shopping habits

The trouble with loss leader products is that people become accustomed to their low prices and so expect that that price is for real.
In England milk is often used as a loss leader, but it is to the...

Re: Supermarket shopping habits

The one problem with cheap food is that farmers generally do not benefit. They usually lose.
For instance the average costs of production for milk in the UK is around 40-45p/litre, but the price...

For years there wasn't a Mercadona in the Basque country, but now there are a few. I've only ever been in one twice!
Our village has of course Eroski. Unfortunately they don't...

Re: UK Passport Renewal

If I renember the courier service was €19. Well worth it. And I think it was DHL.

Re: UK Passport Renewal

I renewed my passport early December online.
The hardest part was the foto. They didn't accept the one my wife took with her phone, so I went to get 'proper' fotos done with a photographer.
I got...

Re: Spain's population boom

More serious is the fact that Spain has one of the lowest European demographic replacement rates, and that from a Catholic country!
Spain is heading for a catastrophe in the next few decades.
There...

Re: Now we are going to lose BBC sounds

Forgive me if I appear dim or tech stupid, but I really don't understand why people have to resort to VPN or an app or Firestick or whatever the tech softare/hardware is, in order to listen to BBC...

Re: Anyone know if you need to inform the government after obtaining EU citizens

I've been through a similar process and now have a Maltese passport as well as a British one as my father was Maltese & unknowingly I am a Maltese citizen!
You didn't say whether you became a...

Re: Spanish Traditions

We sometimes hear the pan pipes denoting a knife sharpener, these days though usually played on tape from a loudspeaker in a van.
Two years ago I heard the pipes, went outside and saw an elderly man...

Re: Spain finally accepts Brits are not mad!

About time.
Our government was involved in a huge cover up regarding "Mad cow disease", the same actually as the Spanish government did for the 'rapeseed oil scandal'.
In both cases the cause was...

Re: Fancy this on your doorstep?

I read somewhere recently that Burgos had been interested in the idea.
Not really on the tourist map other than its wonderful cathedral.
I think the bull fighting fraternity are getting desperate...

Re: The end of Spam phone calls?

We got one recently, though to begin with I didn't think it was spam.
It was from a friend in England and simply said "Can you let me know if you get this message".
Thinking he'd been having...

Re: Airline charges for small bags

True, but when you're told that "this bag will fit" & it doesn't there's not a lot you can do.

Airline charges for small bags

My wife recently went to Windsor to see friends & duly bought a small suitcase from our local Chinese shop, being assured that it would pass through check-in OK.
It didn't!
Result was €55 extra! ...

Re: Flashing V16 beacons for the car

Re: Flashing V16 beacons for the car

Our village Correos is now selling them at €59.
Seems a bit steep.

Re: Flashing V16 beacons for the car

I receive the bi-monthly free DGT magazine "Seguridad Vial", worth reading, though in Spanish.
Waiting for them to do a test report on V16 beacons before buying.

Re: Electricity

Apparently power was restored yesterday in the Basque country at 15.30.
Luckily we've been in Devon until tomorrow.
Shocked at high prices in England.

Re: Spain goes digital for ID but...

I see the subscription to the newspaper is €35 annually.

Re: Flashing V16 beacons for the car

Our local Correos sells them, but currently only the previous ones which didn't have GPS. They're selling them off for €9 which is ludicrous as they won't be compliant.

Re: The Green Certificate will not be recognised by the EU's Entry Exit System

I'm surprised that British residents don't realise that a NIE is not an ID as it doesn't carry photo ID.

I take daily rainfall measurements as well as max/min temperatures here in Elorrio, Bizkaia (inland).
Looking at winter averages (Jan, Feb, Mar) since 2020 (inclusive) we've actually had less winter...
