Slow to get social security number

I received my O-1 visa about a month ago. Three weeks ago I went to the local (in San Francisco) social security office to apply for a social security number.

fyi my immigration looked into this and said that yes, a UK citizen can apply via Brussels.

applied Monday. Now the waiting game ... :/

I have a stamp saying Admitted, and then the date I entered - but there is just a random scribble on the "class until" i literally cannot read it. :confused:
