I'd go for the Shangri-la - and recommend either of the two websites below to find a lower rate than going direct.

Take a look at US Embassy Hotel Desk (http://www.us-embassy.hotel-desk.net) too for hotel rooms, they seem to have some good offers around the embassy (as well as the Park Lane mad priced hotels!):)...

Looking forward to a somewhat strange summer Christmas.. can't quite get my head around it yet, but I'm sure a BBQ on Christmas day will work well.. not quite sure how to cook the turkey on the BBQ...

Just arrived in Christchurch in October 2010, pretty much settled into a routine now.

The place is so similar to the UK that apart from the distance...
