Re: Darwin's turn for a bit of weather! Tropical Cyclone Carlos

It is post Tracy (possibly 1995 ish), but there were some houses that survived Tracy, and not all were built to category 5 standard after. I think the standards have changed over time, with the...

Re: Darwin's turn for a bit of weather! Tropical Cyclone Carlos

The wind is definitely pretty strong though. It's more the inconvenience - the weather and the flooding!

I have just cracked open my first beer, and...

Re: What shocked/surprised you when you arrived?

I like your list!
The rubbish tip thing depends on your state or council though I think.
In Darwin here, we can put as much as we like for free but you have a key tag thingy to get through the boom...

Re: What shocked/surprised you when you arrived?

Agree.
I agree with a lot of Turban Explorer's actually - the racism, the stars, the cleanliness and the space all astounded me (and still do!).

Another one is the Cadbury's dairy milk chocolate...

Re: Darwin's turn for a bit of weather!

Yeah a LOT of roads are flooded.
This morning seems ok, so far, but looking at the BOM radar, it looks like I'm in the middle of the "eye" so not sure how it is for everyone else (I'm in...

Re: Passing time while awaiting Immigrant Visa....any ideas?

Me too.

I was going to suggest a 365 project - although it's nice to have a DSLR, you can be just as creative with a good compact.
Maybe worth getting yours cleaned to remove sand?

Flickr is...

Re: Australian Bucket List

Ooo +1 for Esperance

Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef are also awesome - I much preferred diving there to up in North QLD.

Re: Australian Bucket List

Am I allowed to have more than one?!

+1 on the Whitsundays - the sailing trip and a 4WD trip on Fraser Island were two highlights of my travels in Oz.

Kakadu National Park (NT)

The Gibb...

Re: Anyone got a trailer boat?

As other people have said, the costs depend on the boat.

First, decide on what sort of boat you would like, as datamile said.
For instance, aluminium or fiberglass?
We have a fiberglass (sp?!)...

Re: Would this count as "non employment"?

Thanks for the replies guys.

This certainly clarifies it for me.

Thanks for the advice, I will just have to wait.

Hi guys,

I have a bit of a random question....

I submitted my application for a partner visa on 7th Jan 2011, in Australia. I am in Australia on a tourist visa, which was then extended to a...

Returned to UK, and left for another year. Managed to get travel insurance (but I can't remember who with).
Had to re-apply for...

"Wwoofing" as suggested above is volunteering in exchange for food/board. It is great as a traveler, and a wonderful way to meet people.

There...

Re: Working Holiday Visa Info

No you don't need them to actually apply, but as I say, any official can ask you at the airport, and if you can't prove it, they have the right to turn you away.

The conditions of the visa are...
