No worries you did not affend me I backpacked their in 1993 and they seemed friendly enough to me and I went to Kakadu national park and beyond.

So I do have an insite but not with kids - mine we brought up in the Middle East so think they have probably seen everything by now plus look at the people here in the UK on the streets!

Thanks for your thoughts anyway

Good! I just needed to explain myself a bit better!

Good Luck with everything - if you need any Darwin related info...

There are a lot of groups of aboriginals hanging around in groups on the streets, which young kids might find a bit intimidating walking around. That's all I meant.

I have friends who are aboriginals, have socialised with them on occassions and have worked with them. I have nothing against them, so there is no need to jump down my throat.

As an English person moving to Darwin, they may look a bit off putting loitering in parks/shop/street corners.
Have you been to Darwin Budawang?

Good luck to everyone moving here!
I didn't mean to jump down your throat. Yes, I have been to Darwin and to Alice Springs. It's no secret there are many problems afflicting aboriginal communities. However, it's important to recognise the devastation, unwitting and otherwise, inflicted by mainly British Europeans.

I also think that the various Aboriginal tribes have, in many ways, very rich living cultures which many white peopel don't recognise or appreciate. We have a narrow understanding of what culture is - old buildings, paintaings, museums etc.

Have a good time up there.

Have to say just finding out info but think we have decided it is too much of a backwater for us but there was a possible job opportunity. Possible job opportunity in Melbourne and have been there to when travelling but still back in 1993 and without any kids. Where would be the nicest place to live within computing distance of the main town centre?

Thanks again

Rachel

Just spotted this, be preparred for it to be very wet and stormy when you get here on Sunday. At the moment the weather is awful. Check out weatherzone for an acurate report, before travelling.
Good luck on the journey

Pretty windy for the next few days... I'm flying down to Adelaide in a couple of hours.... hopefully it won't be too bumpy taking off!
