Self employed in Oz?

Does anyone know if it is possible to go over to Oz and be self employed? For example, hire yourself out to a company as a masseur. Will the three month rule still apply?

I was advised, being that i wouldn't qualify with enouugh points over here in the UK to go to Oz on a year's working visa and either marry an aussie chick or find myself an employer who would sponsor...
