Re: One Way Travel Insurance back to UK

Thanks, but I have already spoken to Endsleigh, as we had used them for insurance when we were at Uni a couple of decades ago, and whilst they were very helpful, they cannot give us any kind of cover...

Re: One Way Travel Insurance back to UK

Oh I agree and would not risk travelling without insurance, espaciallty with having a stopover on the way there. I’ve never once stayed in an AirBnB with any kind of room safe. Most places are...

Re: One Way Travel Insurance back to UK

Thanks, I’ve just phoned up both the Aussie and the UK World Nomads and they can’t give us the cover we need. Either we would be covered as a UK citizen for our journey back to the UK but they won’t...

One Way Travel Insurance back to UK

We’re off back to the UK for a bit. The issue I’m having is finding insurance cover for our journey from Aussie to the UK. We used GoWalkabout when we left the UK over a decade ago, and they covered...

Re: Customs Form .. Transfer of Residence

So did he then have to contact customs and update them with his new delivery address details, or was it all approved and not mattered by that point?

Re: Customs Form .. Transfer of Residence

Jumping on this thread as I’ve been wondering, what happens if you are returning to the UK but booking temporary accomodation such as AirB&B type of thing until your feet are on the ground in the UK...

Re: Brits living in Australia thinking about the Canada move

We’re seriously considering a move to Canada (probably GTA), but a change of employer and some golden handcuffs are keeping us in Aussie a little while longer than originally anticipated. The other...

Re: Dressing for a winter commute

Yep, +17 degrees and people are dressed in down jackets, beanie hats and long winter boots. Actually it's the women who are in long winter boots. Men invariably have bare legs to go with their down...

Re: Dressing for a winter commute

Compared to the 45 degree days we've had here over the last summer, yes it probably does feel pretty cold by comparison. But 17 degrees just isn't 'cold' - not really. We've never needed mroe than a...

Re: Dressing for a winter commute

It's winter here though!! By far and away the best time of year here in Sydney. People are wandering around in long boots and down jackets, pretending that 17 degrees is cold

Re: Dressing for a winter commute

Did you ever actually use these regularly or were they a spare set?

We've always keep a fairly sizeable first aid kit, 2 heavy wool blankets, toilet roll, some container or potty to wee into...

Re: Dressing for a winter commute

I looked at that, but I wanted more specific info about how office workers manage rather than just general keeping warm outdoors info. Similarly in Aussie, we have to think about commuting in summer,...

Re: Cost of owning a car in Ontario

Thankyou! Looks like insurance in Ontario is about twice the cost them.

If there is no MOT of WOF equivalent, does this mean there are lots of dangerous old bangers on the roads?

Re: Cost of owning a car in Ontario

I've never heard that version before.

Don't sweat the small stuff - absolutely agree. If you get the important life stuff in order, small annoyances/challenges are not worth wasting much time and...

Re: Cost of owning a car in Ontario

I would counter that with the old saying that if you look after the pennies, the pounds will take care of themselves. Sooo, basically you absolutely should question the cost of Every. Single. Thing.

Re: Cost of owning a car in Ontario

Current car in Aussie is a 9 year old 7-seater Mitsubishi. Just renewed insurance and it was $1350 for both the green slip (compulsory 3rd party insurance) and regular fully comp insurance combined....

Re: Cost of owning a car in Ontario

What about breakdown cover? In both the UK we had AA cover for a very similar annual fee. Here is Australia there is no AA equivalent. We have NRMA cover, which is more pricey and nowhere near as...

Re: Cost of winter clothing

 Sounds pretty similar to when we lived in Christchurch on the SI of NZ. But I don't remember ever having weather there below -7, so maybe not quite so nutty.

Cost of owning a car in Ontario

OK, so there are lots and lots of threads, bemoaning the cost of car insurance. But what about all the other associate costs? I've found the cost of annual car registration, MOT equivalent and...

I'm thinking winter boots (how...

Soooo, what do you guys dress when commuting via public transport in winter.

Do you freeze your butt off in regular work clothing and a coat/hat/gloves on top.

Do office workers dress more...

Re: Brexit and Canada

That's not quite what I'm asking. I'm just wondering whether people have changed their view at all, perhaps viewing Canada more favouribly by comparison. Of course this will make no real difference...

Brexit and Canada

For those of you who seem to post from a more ambivalent perspective of Canada when compared to the UK, how do you feel about Canada post-Brexit? More positive towards Canada? No different?
