Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

They keep changing the Class 2 NIC Payments page (https://www.gov.uk/pay-class-2-national-insurance/make-online-telephone-bank-transfer) for some unknown reason. When I paid in January of this year...

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

I paid from my UK bank account after transferring money to it using XE.

When I send money using XE, I can either specify how much I want to send in USD or how much I want to receive in GBP. I'm...

Re: UK voting

Exactly. They ask you where you were last registered to vote in the UK and assign the same constituency.

Some folk just like to make noise, it seems.

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

I heard nothing electronically - only a letter that came through the post to the US. I had selected Direct Debit on my original application form but as more than 6 months had passed since I dated...

Re: UK voting

I think this is the secondary legislation that was required to allow expats a "vote for life":

It looks like it...

Re: Became a U.S. citizen a few weeks ago!

Congratulations! I did the same last year.
Just one thing if others are thinking of doing it - if you have Global Entry the difference entering the US in my experience is zero for citizens and...

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

I just received my letter from HMRC approving Class 2 NICs.

My application was received by HMRC on 10-May-23, and the approval letter was dated 09-Nov-23 so a quicker turnaround than I was...

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

Right! I didn't believe the date they put for one moment!!

Now they have the form, my understanding is the July deadline no longer matters, as I don't have to pay anything until they send me the...

Re: Class 2 NI. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributions?

I posted my first CF83 (from within the UK) on 10 March and after calling 3 times to see if they received it I was told on April 21 that I should perhaps send in another so I did so on that same day...

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

I posted my CF83 form from the UK on 23 March and have been keeping an eye on the "Track your forms" page of the "Communications" tab on the HMRC app, but it is still showing "You have no forms"....

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

Very frustrating. I would just call the tax office and ask if they received it. I posted mine to family in the UK and was going to have them send it recorded delivery (as I knew about the tracking...

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

Thanks for the clarification. I think what makes me nervous is that the Ministerial Statement (Link here (https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2023-03-07/hcws608))...

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

It seems we are getting mixed messages. Although my form has been sent, and so should be before April 5th, I specifically asked on a call today if the July 31st deadline was for PAYMENTS only, and he...

Re: NI Catch Up - ordinarily resident or not

I was told, quite emphatically, but the important date is the day that they receive your application not the April 5, or the extended July 31 dates. HMRC told me that provided your application has...

Re: Class 2 NI abolished. What about us poor expats paying voluntary contributio

Sorry - my typo has created a bit of confusion I think. I was talking about CF83 (Application to pay National Insurance contributions abroad) not CF38 The help-form is NI38 (just to add to the...

Re: NI Catch Up - ordinarily resident or not

I think you should have answered YES to this as the guidance document NI38 states the following:
