Re: 1.93's A$ to the Pound!!!

I think you should all stop trying to guess, I hold the absolute answer to all of this.

You see, I've come to learn that the exchange goes heavily against me wherever I go in the world, when I...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

No worries, I did rather come in on the front foot so perhaps a more thoughtful introduction to my views is in order for next time :-)

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

I stand by those comments, that is my point of view.

I am NOT calling people in here names as you said, if they vote for Abbots policy because they are swayed by the 'stop the boats' slogan and...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

ABC, and others... for the last time...

I am not disagreeing with the proposed policies, they are required. There is no question that something needs to be done to make the system fair. I agree...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Wow, that's a bit OTT. Where have I called anyone on here a name? and where have I said that anyone who disagrees with me is a redneck, bigot or someone not capable of anything!?

All I've done is...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Now why do these sort of comments make this tune appear in my head?

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Great, so why the massive election busting deal about the boat people?

Other than to drum up votes based on utter xenophobia. God knows how many times I've used that word today, but it's the only...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Indeed they did, it was dealt with and stopped. That singular emotive subset of the immigration issue was not used to stir hatred and get votes. Well, I stand corrected there - the BNP did.

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

I agree, but you wouldn't see 'Stop the Calais Trailers' as a front page bullet point to the UK conservative or labour manifesto in relation to cutting general migration levels.

It would be...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Sure, there is nothing wrong with that and yes it needs to be dealt with.

It's about how it's done and what emotions are intentionally stirred in the electorate to get votes.

It's also about...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Again, missing my point.

Rather than using what I'm saying as a platform to defend cutting or managing migration - which I may well agree with (!) - look at what I'm actually saying.

For a top...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Spoken like a true crusader. Slay the savages!

Perhaps you mean 'threat from extremists' rather than 'threat from islam'...?

and, 'Indigenous populations are seeing their way of life and...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

With respect, you're continually missing my point.

I couldn't give a stuff what policy exists or by whom - it's the way that 'Boats' are the main topic - it's xenophobic. It's playing on the age...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

It's true what you are saying - it exists everywhere.

However, in the UK (a tentative example, but **** it - my heads above the parapet now) the last party that tried to exploit emotion over such...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Because they are whipping up a minor topic for political gain, and the only way such an issue can be exploited in this way is if the population falls for it; and racism and xenophobia is a perfect...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Bangs head against wall....

I haven't mentioned the controls being suggested have I? I may well agree with them. My comment about putting them to work was clearly flippant.

What I do not agree...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Let me rewrite what I said originally, I'm being dragged into policy making debate when I wasn't ever arguing about that!

So, my original comment:

I find...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

Great - this just allows me to add 'Tony Abbot as well as the ALP' to my points about Aussie mentality in post 174.

I'm not for or against any partiular party, I was pointing out what Abbott is...

Re: Tony Abbott plans to block 130,000 people from migrating to Australia

My point is that the way Abbott inparticular is touting this policy is cynical. The very fact that this issue swamps the media is indicitive of that xenophobic atmostphere being whipped up that I...
