...what's better, to have someone who continually says all the right things, but doesn't ever actually show in reality that they mean it...or someone who never says the stuff, just shows it in everything they do...?

FWIW I suppose verbal communication must have some importance otherwise I would have taken to miming long ago. Hmm. Perhaps I should try this in my next relationship.....

I agree with MH and the proverbial cliché: 'actions speak louder than words' , which says it all really...it has been passed down through the generations so, basically, is a long-term observation of human nature.
