Winter World Cup........
I can see all this going tits up. You bid and award the games based around it being held in June-July. I am still seething that the 2 countries with the deepest pockets bought the tournaments anyhow.

Makes sense though. So what if Europe has to have a break in leagues. Southern hemisphere must have to for summer world cups
Plenty of time to sort.

Add in that the major clubs of Europe have threatened to refuse to release their players and you have a recipe for disaster.
However, I was speaking to a couple of people who are experts in stadium construction and they brought up a very interesting fact.
It's harder to keep a stadium warm than it is to keep air cool. Because colder air sinks, it's easier to keep it in the stadium as you produce it, whereas hot air rises and is much more difficult to keep it warm.

Re: Winter World Cup........
Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has warned a summer World Cup in Qatar would be more than inconvenient - it would be dangerous too.
Dyke said on Friday that FIFA has two choices - to move the 2022 tournament to a cooler part of the year or move it to another country. He believes a winter World Cup is the more likely option.
In speaking out, it is the first time the FA has taken a formal position on the controversial issue, although Dyke's predecessor David Bernstein said in June that any plans to move the World Cup to the winter were "fundamentally flawed".
I don't know Dyke's credibility, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's talking common sense and doesn't have a hidden agenda.
So, if the position of the FA is consistent from one chairman to the next, then a summer world cup is too dangerous, and moving it to winter is fundamentally flawed.

Summer is the ideal time for the WC cause that is when people usually go on long vacation. WC shouldn't have to be moved to please a tiny little country.

Re: Winter World Cup........
Anyway - here is the solution for the English Premier League (other UEFA nations can follow suit): for one season only (21/22), relegate SIX teams and promote two. This makes a 16-team league which means 30 matches, not 38 as now. This would leave room for an empty Jan/Feb window for the World Cup............ then, relegate two and promote six in time for the following season.
The clubs will moan at the drop in revenues but they have nine years to budget for that, or nine years in which to persuade the TV people to pay a lot more for rights by then.
Voila. Problem solved.

I know it is due to concern of player' health; what I meant was that the WC should just be moved to a different country instead of rescheduling it.

Tell that to the crowds wearing just shorts with the sun beating down on them. Give me a coat and a meat pie anyday.

Why do people play football in European winters ? Always struck me as crackers.
