Re: why do men propose?
... I was just wondering why do men propose, is it the next thing to do, pressure from the girlie, just expected to as they have been togetehr for so long or do guys actually dream about the fairytale ending as well and actually love their missus enough that they cant imagine life without them?
I managed to subvert things a bit, by marrying a white Australian, but all I had ever known since I was a child was that when I grew up, I would get married and start my own tribe.

Re: why do men propose?
Ok I am possibly too old, been single too long, or perhaps just a little bit cynical, I just read Jeepers post about getting engaged (congrats again), and just got to thinking about boys.
I do not claim to understand men at all, however, I am an old romantic at heart and would love to believe that there is such a thing as true love etc but I don't actually believe in the fairy tale ending anymore (awww). I was just wondering why do men propose, is it the next thing to do, pressure from the girlie, just expected to as they have been togetehr for so long or do guys actually dream about the fairytale ending as well and actually love their missus enough that they cant imagine life without them? Do guys actually believe in spending the rest of their lives with one woman and growing old together or is it just a sham that us girlies are bought up believing by the likes of Disney?
A very cynical spinster (very topical for valentines day I feel)

I realised that I wanted to spend my life with her and she was the one for me, bearing in mind I have never even lived with a lass I guess it seemed like a big deal but it was the perfect thing to do for me.
So we moved in together, and things went incredibly well, so we went back to Oz on holiday, there's this little place called Gordons Bay which is a tiny little pebbly beach where I used to sometimes go on my own and chill out after a heavy night or just relax and read a book and take a dip in the ocean.
I'm not a big fan of massive meals and wowing people so I took her down to there, I took some nice wine and left it in a rock pool cooling, we had a swim in the sea, I put some stevie wonder on and when we climbed out back onto the rocks, looking out into the beautiful sea with the sun beating down on our backs I got down on one knee and propsed.
She said yes, started crying (then so did I) and we had a big hug and laughed and talked, then I jumped back into the sea for a dip and we lazed around, drank the wine and had a lovely day - later on we got our mates together and had a meal and got pissed as farts, it was perfect.
Oh yeah, also I had rang her dad up and asked his permission, I am a bit old fashioned like that, and both sets of parents were over the moon, in fact when I told my mam she said 'about bloody time as well, she's the best thing thats ever happened to you!'.
So you see Cat.....there's still some old fashioned romantics out there.

Well......I was with mrs spugsy for about 2 years when I proposed, I met her in Oz and we had a bit of a whirlwind romance, which ended up with her leaving Oz after 4 years and coming back to the Toon with me (via 6 months at her folks place and lots of annoying commutes to kent and back).
