I purposefully won't buy certain things from the one local to us in JBR (there are several, and I don't know about standards in the others) after having found 2 incidences of contaminated cereal (one with cobwebs inside the plastic and another one crawling with mites once opened - ok, amybe not the supermarket's fault there!) and then well, the "fresh" meat and fish... nooooo! Not since I saw a trolley-load of salmon fillets left unattended by the fish-counter. Goodness knows how long it'd been there, but let's say, the fish was at room temperature and it was quite warm.
