What would happen if Beard Man wanted to rule the UAE?

If you, as a UAE citizen, born and bred as you state, disagreed with the way the country was ran, could you do anything about it? (this is assuming you are not a member of the ruling family of course).

What would happen to you if you publicly and persistently stated your disagreements with what was happening to your country? (As it is against the law here to do so)

What would happen to you if you attempted to raise support for yourself in a bid to rule the country, instead of the ruling family?

Hell, why stop at the UAE? World domination just in time to save us all before the day of reckoning....

TBH, most nationals that I have met are reasonably happy with the way their country is run....

And they can take their grievances to the Majlis - roughly equivalent of going to your MP's surgery, I suppose... Plus the government is making moves to create a national assembly, and to admit more women to cabinet positions.

Let's not stereotype UAE society here.

I wasn't stereotyping. I was asking questions..

I am sure that most Emiratis are more than happy with their country, as they should be.

SYB is right. Most Emiratees are happy enough with how things are run in the UAE. This form of rule has worked for centuries. The only difference now is that the rulers are Western educated and that there is wealth. So common sense invariably prevails. Majalis are well used here and the UAE society is close knit enough that they have their own radar warning system for their own issues. Singapore is another country that has thrived under a ruler. Whist I don't agree with it personally and many there are quietly unhappy with it, they know the risk to their personal welath and quality of life is too much of a trade off. I suspect it would be the same in the UAE, as well as total respect for the ruling family.

what will happen to me in that case is that for sure i may be locked a way

but

i will not publicly announce anything that i feel is wrong ... because as far as i believe this is a wrong way of changing things.

if there is something wrong ..and i can approach the ruler to get this wrong thing corrected ... it is what we can an advice .. from someone who care about the ruler and wish for him all the best...

he may/may not agree with my advice.. then i got nothing to do but to wish him good luck.

one last thing..

i will never try to become a ruler.. because first of all ... as a muslim i am not allowed to try to overtake the place of a ruler.

and it is a big responsibility that i am alot happier far away from it.

LOL - well think about it, if the ideas of self-determination and one-man one-vote were introduced here, then the ruler would be from Kerela.....

thanks for your candour Beard Man..

So what do you see as the future for the UAE?

What will happen to the country in 20 years time if the population consists of 20 million expats and 3 million Emiratis?

it is really dangrouse

i can't anticipate the future (only God knows about the future :P)

but i feel it is not going to be good at all to locals and rulers

I feel they are aware of this issue ... and i think they will take actions to correct mistakes whereever they are.. but it will take some time.

one more thing... the need for expats will always be there... and there are expats everywhere in the world...

got to go now :)

home sweet home

wish you a good time all of you

As we are unlikely to get citizenship or permanent residency (a polite courtesy that seems to be extended to many specialised "expats" by UK/US/Canadian immigration), we will all get booted out when the water runs out, the Emiritization programme runs its course and there is no longer a need for our skills. Unless you are a maid or other low paid service sector worker.

If that is true then the million-plus resident mega-projects will be ghost towns....

So does that mean that there can never be a democracy in a Muslim state? No wonder Benazir Bhutto was assassinated.

the way they are being built, they will be crumbling anyway.... and there will still be expats. Just not a high proportion of highly skilled expats is my hymble crystal ball prediction - as unlike Beadman, I dare to predict.

Multiple Choice:

If participatory democracy were to be introduced into the UAE, it would result in:

a) one man, one vote
b) one woman, one vote
c) one man, one wife
d) all of the above
e) none of the above

:(

20 million expats and 3 million Emiratis?

not forever....

there are Emiratis all over the world studying to be members fo the workforce in all specialisations.

There are no Emarati dentists now maybe, but in ten years' time, why not?

Same for petroleum engineers, and finance executives, and media analysts, and architects, and everythign else.

The process of Emiratisation is well underway.

I want Beardy Man , to have a read of this and let me know what he thinks as Id be very interested in his opinion...

I recently attended an annual training session.

During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video.

After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked:

'Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world and, that by killing an infidel, (which is a command to all Muslims) they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel please?'

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation, the Imam replied, 'Non-believers! '

I responded, 'So, let me make sure I have this straight. .....All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can have a place in heaven. Is that correct?'

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and one that looked a little sheephish

He quieryly replied, 'Yes.'

I then stated, 'Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope Benedict commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr. Stanley ordering all Protestants to do the same in order to guarantee them a place in heaven!'

The Imam was speechless!

I continued, 'I also have huge problem with being your 'friend' when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me and my family!

I said to the Imam, let me ask you a question....

Would you rather have your Allah, who tells you to kill me in order for you to go to heaven, ....or ......Jesus who tells us to love you because I am going to heaven and He wants you to be there with me?'

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame...
