Re: What do you miss from home?
I know what I miss from home.
Green grass.
The smell of damp wool.
Muddy dog prints on my pants.
Proper butchers.
Proper vegs.
Proper food in general. Big pots of stews and roasts. Out here it's too hot to eat anything heavy.
Being able to wear corduroys.

the two are not compatible.
you stop wearing cords at 7 years old and start again at 60.
when you say 'muddy dog prints on your pants...' please tell me that is American English?

Re: What do you miss from home?
Someone must be buying all these cords at Hacketts and it's not even in the country....
No, I was actually sentimental about how dogs show me their love by tracking mud all over my clothes when I come home for the holidays.
Picture it:
I get out of the car to open the cattle grid gate. It's usually dusk, not quite dark but the skies are purple.
I can see the house in the distance. Lights twinkling in the windows. Think I'm safe. So I allow myself a minute to surreptiously smoke the last fag, thinking I have time.
But no.
About halfway through, without warning I hear a tiny crack. A twig snapping somewhere. Or the faint slurping sound of squelching mud.
"**** hell!" I shout.
In the split second or two I have before I can escape back into the safety of the car, at least two, usually three, sometimes four dogs come bounding out of nowhere.
If I'm lucky I might get away with only the bottom half of the (trousers, happy now?) ruined.
That's how I go home.

Ethos- just how posh are you?
Please answer the below questions;
Do you own a range rover in the UK?
Are the dogs you are talking about actually hound dogs that you go fox hunting with?
Where you a young farmer?
Have you ever lived in Fulham?
Do you know Prince William?
Do you say Yar darling?
Did you go to Eton?
Do you think Sloane rangers are still fashionable?
Do you refer to lower class people as commoners?
Do you wear your cords with wellies and a rifle when you go shooting?
