My new Lunar telescope arrived on Xmas eve. When DHL rang the bell I actually called him Santa

OK......... how about this, my nomination for the most unusual and least expected gift that any of you received (I'm guessing)..........

Amongst all the usual stuff (sports books, CDs, etc), I received - from Deanetta, no less - 'Flashes Of Thought' by Shk Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum........ the chapter headings should give you a feel for what is in it ('Time Management', 'Ideas and Creativity', 'Motivating Teams', etc), and an early flick-through actually suggests it might be a good read.

I'll report back if/when I finish it.

[so far, however, nothing at all for my birthday which - as you all know - is today]

Got some nice shoes in the Steve Madden sale at DFC y/day, reduced from Dhs420 to Dhs150 so bought two pairs with different tones. Kushti. Hope they last longer than those I bought in Dublin last year. Wore them no more than six times before the sole came away from the uppers.

A new knee !

Quack confirmed that my op goes ahead in first week in Jan and then 4-6 weeks to recover. Not sure if i should get both knees done at the same time and then save the fun for the 2nd knee !

Happy Birthday chap.

Weird present; I got a stag's head to mount on the wall, but it's a build-it-yourself slotted together wooden / modern type thing.

Not sure I actually like it or want it up in the apartment but pretty cool all the same.

The pair I bought in Dublin cost me an arm and a leg. I find that the cheap and cheerful ones bought here last longer. Anyway, if you look closely you will see that even Clarkes footwear is made in China or India these days.

i've started buying from Ecco. they fit my ultra skinny feet.

I had a pair of gorgeous shoes from Steve Madden (bought in Calgary, so relatively cheap compared to Europe/GCC) but on the third outing the heel got caught in a grating, and they were unwearable after that
