Looks like FIFA wants to expand the tournament from 32 to 48 teams in 2022. The article based on the leaked report says that two to four more stadiums would be required in at least one more nation. I'm guessing Kuwait and Oman are higher up Qatar's list than Saudi and UAE. $400 million in extra revenue would be generated, but i'm sure this won't play a part in the decision.

I think 2026 has gone to 48 teams already. Personally, I think that's too big. Reduces the overall quality of qualifying teams. FIFA just seem interested in making as much money as possible, One way, or t'other.

Yup, 48 teams for 2026. It only increased from 24 to 32 teams 1998. It'll be 96 teams before too long at this rate.

Depending on how you calculate the rate either 28 or 56 years.. I'm not too worried.
