I have been using a Vaio Z something for almost 3 years without issues and battery is fine - well, it does 2-3 hours!
Seriously suggest you look at MacBook Pro 13" (depending on your requirements, of course). I just got one and it is superb especially the suspend/resume (both within 10 seconds vs 2-10 mins on a Windows machine) and the wifi connectivity (almost immediate connection at EK lounge last week vs many minutes with Windows).
Uk prices aren't bad at the moment due to fx rate.
Students can get 15% discount and an almost free iPod Touch in UK this month and I guess Heathrow price will be around £782 or $1300 or AED4800. $1200 retail in US plus possible duty/VAT hassles in London.
OTOH, Windows 7 is a vast improvement.....
