Urgent Advice please
Wedding this arvo.
Blue suit. White shirt. An array of ties. Pocket square - what are the rules? Matching / Not matching? Neat slip / stuffed in / pointed? White pocket square with a pale coloured tie acceptable? Thanks in advance for any (good) jokes and advice. Scampdoesntneedapocketsquaretolookhotbutthinksitsa ppropriate. |
Re: Urgent Advice please
I suggest a brightly coloured bow tie, monocle and walking stick. Just the business. Is it a church do?
|
Re: Urgent Advice please
Pointed pocket square and it would be nice if it matched the tie in colour. In my opinion....
If not, a tie with a bit of white in. |
Re: Urgent Advice please
Good god, definitely not matching. Colour mustn't clash with tie, nor must pattern. Sedate tie + loud square, or vice verca. Or Bond/50's style white pocket kerchief, squared-off and neat, but only if the rest of the ensemble suits (which probably means a narrow, quiet tie, thin reveres and slim-fitting suit).
Alternatively shiny silver/grey trousers and black coat, or vice verca. With white shirt and black or loud tie. |
Re: Urgent Advice please
Depends what you want to say about yourself scampy
What colour and fit is the suit? I like white shirts personally- (if its a good shirt)- and with a well tied tie and keep your tie on for as long as possible. It's formal but timeless and elegant- nice cufflinks- NOT comedy ones. Coloured shirt make it less formal though in my opinion and you risk looking like a twat. Waistcoat ? I do love a man in a 3 piece suit :-) Personally I like a suit without a pocket square especially if its a good well cut suit, however if you have to have one do not point it! stuff it in in a gathered or folded in neatly- never pointed. matching tie to pocket square is a bit dated. Also keep your jacket on for as long as possible! |

Re: Urgent Advice please
brit- whats the point in wearing a suit if you are taking the jacket off? I mean presumably you wouldn't be wearing a heavy wool suit out here, men look good in suits, men don't look as good in trousers a shirt and tie. - you can't beat Sean Connery in that 3 piece suit (Goldfinger) did he ever take his jacket off- no- and he was saving the world!
|
Re: Urgent Advice please
A good looking man in a well cut suit - with no tie and his shirt undone a little bit, while still wearing his jacket in that, i've just fended off a gang of henchmen, kinda look. mmmmmmm

Re: Urgent Advice please
Plain suit + ornate waistcoat works, too.
Agree with Kitty, no joke cufflinks, they are naff beyond belief. And--not that you'd do this--no buttons on the cuffs: you either have cuffs that are made for buttons or cuffs that are made for cufflinks. And make sure your collar and cuffs match, just in case... |

you are neither scamp so don't listen to bahtatboy Gents, do listen to us. A good quality, well cut suit is a winner. I'd also vote for French cuffs and cufflinks. Shiny fabrics, ill-fitting or badly cut suits, especially ones that are too heavy for this climate are as bad as wearing crocs. |

For a wedding? No! We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Ornate waistcoats are traditional.

I think I wore one to my school's graduation, not sure if I got laid or not but can't fully blame the waistcoat for that |

Attachment 109283 Attachment 109284 The aren't really. They may have become popular amongst certain types but they aren't traditional. You can wear a striped or coloured waistcoat with a morning suit, but that's about it. Anything else is naff. |
Re: Urgent Advice please
What sort of wedding are you anticipating?
The Graduate? The Invention of Lying? Bridesmaids? Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves? |

Cobblers. That's an 18th century waistcoat, how much more traditional do you want?
Attachment 109285 Yes, if you are in the 18th century and wearing the complete outfit. Not with a lounge suit. |

Oh bleedin' hell. Traditional in 18th Century. In vogue in 30's (actually those pics from 50's). "No, no --they're not traditional, you can't see them being worn in every decade since God was in shorts." |

So they are traditional. And lounge suit + lairy waistcoat isn't new. Its a wedding, you're meant to dress up. If you can pull it off, do it.
Attachment 109288 Attachment 109289 Class and style trumps any comedy outfit... |

Look you lot - he's gone. He's already on his way there - wearing a blue suit (see Post No 1).
No waistcoat goes with a blue suit. OK? :frown: |

Re: Urgent Advice please
Fascinating advice.
I agree with Bahtat a lot. But also meow and KC. Interesting. I wore a blue tailor made slim fit suit. Tan brown shoes. White TM Lewin shirt, grey with ivory large dot Paul smith tie, white pocket square. Not pointed but rounded casually. I looked ****ing incredible. Advice was read and noted. Appreciate it all. Cue onslaught for: - labels - brown shoes - being jealous that you can't pull it off. |
