Before playing Hannibal, he was in Pravda, roughly based on Rupert Murdoch. When Murdoch found out that Hopkins was going to play Hannibal, Murdoch responded 'He's going to get typecast..'

In all honesty Dean I dont know I would have to think about it.

Problem was I read the book prior to the the film being released and the character in the book is not Jodie Foster! That IMO was the only flaw, if you read the book you will probably understand where im coming from.

I like this perfect casting idea rather than the other - a few thoughts on those perfect for their roles (from reading the novel or script):-

Robert Carlyle and Ewan McGregor -Begbie and Renton
Daniel Craig - both Bond and XXXX from Layer Cake (but not from Girl With Dragon Tattoo - that wasn't right (brilliant film, but he's not Mikael Blomkvist))
That said Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace were both brilliant as Lisbeth Salander
Sean Penn - Harvey Milk
Roy Schnieder - Brody
Kevin Spacey in everything he does

Anything that Denzel Washington does.

Especially Remember the Titans. He's the perfect person for that role.

What about good casting on the basis of look-alike qualities?

Hilary Swank in the Amelia Earhart film..............

Agree with you 100% on the daniel craig bond casting
There is a bit in Layer Cake where he sneaks from room to room holiding a pistol and he just looks soooo bond. Ive allways wondered if it was that sequence that got him the job
