**** me, I hadn't known about this organisation till now. That has got to be one of the biggest gravy trains going. 163 member states, including Iran, Syria, Jordan, Cuba, North Korea, Libya, Nauru (where the ****'s Nauru?), Palau (rice?), St. Vincent and the Grenadines (ice and a little umbrella with mine, please), Tuvalu, Togo, Tonga, Vanuata and Yemen.
"The BIE’s mission is to maintain the integrity and quality of Expos so that they may continue to educate the public and promote innovation in the service of human progress.
Expos must be able to not only provide a benchmark for the human progress made in a given domain but also propose a roadmap for the way forward – and the BIE works to ensure this."
Yeah, right.
And so it works by, in this instance, the UK (obviously one of the member states) supporting UAE (another member state). Clearly on a totally impartial and objective standpoint. I vote for Terry Wogan for Grand Maitre'D.

Why tweet support when you can do this:

This week, we speak to Fiona Newson-Smith from the UK who has been living in the UAE for 11 years.
Smith and her company strongly support Dubai’s bid for the Expo. She even had her nails painted with the Dubai Expo logo while being on sick leave to show support.

I forgot the World Expo still exists.
Maybee it's just my perception but I think industry specific Expos are better venues.

It's getting harder to tell the real news from parody these day in Dubai.

So she can't have been that ill if she can manage to get her nails painted while on sick leave!
Sometimes you just can't make it up.

Unless Blue Cat gives it a proper endorsement I think the bid is doomed.

Looks like a crutch or walking stick of some description in the picture. She may have hurt herself taking part in extreme falconry, or one of the myriad of other activities available in the multi-cultured and open for business city of Dubai.
