Did you miss a zero from that?

Add:

Regularly attend 'leaving parties' for friends.

Go to brunches.

Have to tell people where you're from and what you do for a living immediately upon meeting them.

Write a cheque.

Wear flip flops.

Go to a buffet.

Pay for drinking water.

Disobey "only a fool breaks the 2 second rule".

No, I'm a cheap bastard: I meant at Barracuda or duty free...

Ah, I instantly thought restaurant.

It's my Dad's only complaint about Dubai. He enjoys coming here a lot but begrudges spending £70-80 for anything at the bottom end of decent on a wine list.

I never ask this. And rarely answer this properly when I'm asked.

Saying any of the following words

Insh'allah
Habbibi
Ente jameela
Mafi mushc'allah
Khanees (Phonetic)- for Miss A

Although I have let it slip out once or twice - the ridicule!

The thing I remember about Dubai is not being able to say the guys ruling the place were corrupt, self-serving bell ends, even when they quite plainly were corrupt, self-serving bell ends.

There are very few countries not run by people who are self-serving bell ends, but at least there are some countries where your kids can grow up free to call out the people running the place for being self-serving bell ends.

For example, I'm not having to worryingly check my V P N was on, and that I didn't accidentally sign off with my real name.

Hmm, just because it's in another language doesn't mean you get a free pass for calling me the equivalent of "f@ggot" on a public forum....

Dunno mate. The rulers of Dubai (Maktoums) do a fabulous job supporting their own people and seeing the transformation of a backwaters city into what it is today. It's an impressive accomplishment. And why they're heavily beloved by the Emirati population. So I wouldn't say your description is apt even if I agree with the frustration of not being able to have open and frank discussions about various issues.

Kick off and you're a snowflake.
Say nothing and you leave IKN to think calling someone a faggot is OK.
