No matter how good the intel, security systems etc etc I don't think you can ever be totally secure. There is always one lone nutter with a point to prove.

Christ, just imagine if they didn't have somewhere to come and let off steam.

Too true, look at that nutter Breivik (sp) in Norway. Nobody seemed to have a clue.

Considering the number who own property in London, and others who don't but go there (at least ostensibly) for R&R, the potential for a hit is huge. Factor in also Bin Laden's nationality and that of the recent Kuwait bomber, and I don't think it would be unreasonable to subject all Saudi visitors to UK to go through the same shit, rudeness, inefficiency and chaos that any of us has to put up with entering their country. I'm sure we could achieve it. Any of them who were willing to put up with that must have a very strong motive for visiting.

I entered Heathrow in the non-UK/EU passport holder line (I was using my other one) - it's not exactly a holiday actually.

The risk of home-grown saudi and UAE trouble makers is high. Look at the nationalities of those who did 911.

The Saudis used to think there was no possibility of attacks in KSA. I would think that there is a fair chance something will happen in the Emirates.

Nobody knows...but to me there seems to be far less discontent in UAE than in KSA.

KSA is a powderkeg, has been for a long time.

UAE population is more homogeneous than the KSA one, but you hear on and off about discontent in more rural parts of the Emirates where there isn't so much money sloshing around..

It seems the more affluent countries around here don't have much trouble from the terrorists, fortunately. Coincidence or £££££££ ?

Anyone heard of any shit going off in KSA today??

Isn't that, in part at least, due to the freedoms that people have in the UAE, that are denied in KSA?

Without a doubt. Along with high unemployment and a general sense of entitlement.

The UK is every bit as dangerous for anyone in a major town or city as a mall in Abu Dhabi, a beach in Tunisia or a mosque in Kuwait,

I agree with you though that expats in the UAE live in a bubble that will burst if there is a major attack in the UAE.

N.

Blimey Stormin' Norman, where have you been?

So what's the answer, or is it too late? Personally I don't think it's too late, but the constraining factor is not time but political will.

I am reminded of the guy who foresaw WW2 and decided to build a hideyhole away from it all and sit out the war there. He built a little place for himself on an island in an atoll called Guadalcanal.

Look at a world map and the position of the Emirates !

London is 63% British born, so I'm not sure of your definition, is it a racially based definition of British?

I assumed he meant that British are the minority in Washington.
