, it's because my husband is a banker and likes to keep track of every cent we spend. You should do it, you'd be surprised how all those two dirham purchases can add up over the month. We've also discovered a few frauds on our credit card by ticking of our receipts each month.

Not quite - he "used to be" in banking and finance until last year, but has chucked it in to join some mates here in Dubai and has had a total change.

Thanks Eva - certainly makes life interesting when you're living on the edge.

I certainly don't need to go through loads of receipts... Jeez, I have better things to do, like post trash on here.

'Mass debate'?

Yeah, but at least you get the enjoyment of beer and jelly sweets - ours goes on ballet, cello lessons, singing lessons, tennis lessons, footy, school fees and all the clothing and accessories that go with that stuff. Bloody kids!!

Waste of time.... you can't teach people to be talented, you've either got or it you haven't. You can coach them, but that's different.

I take it that a girl is doing these things, or do you have a budding Billy Elliot in the family?

My son is def no Billy Elliot, though we did have dogs named Billie and Elliott. My girls are pretty good at what they do but still need technical coaching provided by professionals. At the school my eldest went to in Australia, a stringed instrument is compulsory in year 3 and she has carried on learning.

Don't keep cash reciepts, but we try to put most things on credit card.

We always keep those receipts and cross reference monthly against the bill.

We have found lots of errors that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.

In fact a frightening amount
