I don't mean dark skinned Arab, I mean Afro-Arabs? I know Kuwait's last leader had an African mother and looked very African. If you saw any black Arabs, is there a-lot of discrimination against them? Are they treated like African migrants or different?
Just wondering
Thanks

not forgetting that the Arabs were active in the slave trade long before and long after Europeans.

Officially there's no discrimination against them but I know from a friend whose father is Arab that they do tend to at the very least have some sort of friendly stereotyping etc as long as they speak Arabic to some degree and understand the culture and customs...but they do seem to have a lot more acceptance than say someone whose dad is English and whose mother is not but who speaks English and understands the customs.
I know of racial discrimination by non-GCC Arabs though.

Yes there are.
Yes there is.
Have a look at the photos of the ministers and ambassadors. See any black faces?
Compare that to the pictures fo the football teams.

I thought many of the 'black' arabs originated from the east coast of africa when the Omanis were down there trading and invading and such like?
Many words in Swahili are similar or the same as Arabic and in Oman particularly some people still speak in Swahili as a preference to Arabic. I guess its also why there is a large Muslim community in east africa.
I guess those people mixed and migrated throughout the region along with the north africans as previously mentioned.
I've not come across any discrimination although i've noticed that most of the high up locals are paler featured. I have also noticed that locals are very proud if they can trace their heritage a long way back to their Emirate which is understandable.

Correction: The Arab trade slave continued well into the 20th century and arguably still continues. Arabs are still buying what are effetively slaves from the Indian sub-continent.

Plenty of slavery today in the GCC too - they treat many foreigners like cattle. Holding their passports, not allowing people to change jobs easily etc. We treat the dogs better in my country than Arabs treat the people building their cities, guarding their communities, working in their malls, fixing their cars and keeping their country working nicely.
Oh and Muslims also took slaves from Europe for centuries - ever heard of the Barbary Pirates? - it's estimated they took between 800,000 to 1.25 million Europeans as slaves from the 16th to 19th centuries. One reason European powers occupied so much of North Africa was to stop these pirates. Billions in ransom was also paid to the pirates over the years to get back important cargos and persons.
Seems more like a case of Islam being forced by the rest of the world to stop slavery to me...

Well when a religion equates an individual as a slave to an imaginary friend in the sky, what do you expect!

Not long?
When you're a slave, just one day is pretty long.....
When was slavery officially abolished in.... Oman? KSA? Iraq?
Norm- pretty altruistic of the European monarchies to step in just to stop piracy, without a thought of getting rich, huh?
