Default Skin Cancer

Male 45 yo family member had a lump on the thigh that would increase and decrease in size over the years . He finally went to the doctor because it grew bigger than ever; doc said it was Cancerous and removed it.

Doctor says he is ok now.

Any reason for concern, further tests? Anyone here had/know someone have similar skin cancer symptons? Suggestions / advice ?

Wow so that's skin cancer?

I always imagined it to be a skin-type thing and not a lump.

Did the doc send the lump to the lab? What did the lab results say?

Don't think he did, or else I woulda heard about it.
He is a well regarded doctor but not an Oncologist.

unless you have it sent to the lab you don't know if it was cancer or if it is a spreading or benign one, or even what kind it is.

next time you (or anyone) gets a suspicious lump removed, send it to the lab.

my tiny black itchy mole was lymphoma... but had been caught just before it got into the skin layer. I was incredibly lucky, as another month or so and it would have gone into me, and then the survival rate is piss poor.

If the doc said it was cancerous, but did not send it to the lab, that is verging on negligence in my opinion. I'd assume he did actually send it off if he is in any way well regarded, so I'd go back to the doc for confirmation of that, and see what the results were. Having had 2 friends recently die of cancer in their early 40s, one of which was skin cancer, I'd definitely want to find out more.

Update chaps/gals

I presumed wrong, the doctor did send off the lump tissue for lab analysis. The specific skin cancer is Basal-cell carcinoma.

My skin cancer had nothing to do with the sun. It was a skin lymphoma, and I was incredibly lucky it grew on the skin, and not in my lymph nodes where it would have grown undetected.
