But cycling really does depend on the type of knee injury darling. I never take on a new client with dodgy knees until they have seen my sports therapist so she can tell me exactly what we can and can't do.

agree, i was referring to the fact that cycling is non impact on the knees. Of course if one has dodgy knees then specialist advice should be sought.

Seriously - don't ski with your knee in this condition. I completely screwed my ligaments and cartilage skiing - the binding was way too tight, it didn't release and my lower leg went about 300 degrees round while the top half didn't...
The possible rotation and also lateral stresses are going to be very very risky with your ACL not being right... I would not do it. PS I thought my leg was better and then tore all the ligaments a second time roller skating - same lateral motion, just snapped and went down very hard and fast.... Will update you from Salzberg A+E sf:thumbup: |

Have skiied since then and been to physio and use wobble board to get the muscles to act as if they were the ligament. Knee used to 'go' quite often in the early 90s as I didn't totally stop football but had an op in mid 90s to clear all the crap out of the knee. Been fine since then but skiing is probably the most stress I put on it hence the preparation.
Will update you from Salzberg A+E sf:thumbup: Since seeing my PT we work on my knees every week and they are getting stronger and stronger, he reckons they can get 5% stronger every week until they are back to normal. |

Exactly Spugsy, having the right help can really make a difference. I have several clients who can now do a lot more than before because their knees and surrounding muscles are stronger.
Also he's told me that my exercises are actually strengthening the bones in my knees as well. |

Yep my old PT would stop if I said my lower back was hurting on some exercises but my new guy is 'naaaah you'll be fine, you can put pressure on and strain it a bit, it'll strengthen it' and he's right.
Also he's told me that my exercises are actually strengthening the bones in my knees as well. My mother trained with me until she was 74. She is an amazing lady. I took her hang gliding off a 3600' mountain when she was 72 :-) |

good luck - we have a reasonable amount of gym equipment at home. Last year, the plan was to buy it all - this year, I shall consider using it, next year I will use it. you mustn't rush these things. |

However, I had (and still have) excruciating pain in my left knee when bent and under load (the knee, not me in general), eg doing lunges. Saw physio who (painfully) unknotted my quads, which helped but didn't cure. Had one session with a chiro in Japan--after 45 mins he said, "Right, do a lunge now." "Don't be daft, I haven't been able to do one for 2 years, how can you cure it in 45 mins?". But I tried and it was completely pain free. But he said it would only be temporary unless the spinal realignment he did was itself permanent, which would take a few months of sessions; unfortunately I was only there for a couple of weeks, and didn't follow through with a chiro when I returned to UK. But I now want to find a chiro in AD--can anyone recommned one? Ta. |

Re: Shape Up in 2011
So who is coming to YAS Marina on Friday lunchtime to watch the triathlon.
May trigger some inner urge to become a triathlete, or for the lads, to oggle at some pretty tasty chicks. Starts at around 11am, should be a great morning/afternoon. http://www.yasmarinacircuit.com/en/y...6/tri_yas.html |
