We have just had c. 1.5sqM of our bathroom re-tilled by Emaar. Amazingly, it took 2 guys 1.5 days to do this, but they were both work shy and one slept most of the time. It was really only 1 guy for 2 days.

Cost...

7,500 Dh - or about 1300 quid.

For that amount of money, I could have:

- Flown a UK tilier I know over with Emirates: GBP 360
- 2 nights in a 5 star hotel with breakfast: GBP 250
- 2 days labour money: GBP 300
- materials: GBP 50
- 2 hookers for the boy: GBP 130
- 2 days worth of beer and curry: GBP 60

Total: GBP 1150

Saving: GBP 150

My my, isn't Dubai expensive. Thankfully, it wasn't me paying. If I was I would have flown my mate over.

think we know the same tiler...oh my mate would also want 18 holes golf thrown in but still cheaper than Emaar. The tilers I know in Brighton can be found up on the Downs playing golf by 3.30 usually.

When we moved out of old place we got the following bill to basically paint over a few cracks in the wall from subsidence:

2 painters x 2 days x AED 200 per day 800
2 helpers x 2 days x AED 150 per day 600
1 mason x 1 day x AED 200 per day 200
Paint material 1,500

Supervision overheads for engineer:
1 engineer x 1 day x AED 300 per day 300

Driver cost for transporting labour
2 days x 2 trips per day x AED 50/- per trip 200

Total Cost for Repair: 3,600

Eventually after threats of Rent Committee and Police they backed down, but wasn’t easy.

Northern Lad & other - you do realise that you are not liable for repainting on vacating a property?

The law permits standard wear and tear and does not expect a tenant to redecorate. Too many landlords try that particular stunt.

Yes, we never paid it. But it took a few days to get deposit back as they were trying to take it out of that.

We were going to stay on but they would not decrease the rent. It then took them nearly four months to rent the place out again at the reduced price (which we offered them originally). Justice was served.

If you have repainted it puce, then yes. Not just repaint to save the LL the bother before reletting.

I was more thinking of 2 separate sessions. I'd want him focused on the tiling during the day. Unless of course she would happy to mix the grout for him and do a bit of cleaning up.
