More importantly perhaps (for non-Muslims), Eid Al Watsit starts on 9th September 2010.:)

Anyone know if private companies now get to finish at 3 too? Have heard we do - new law and there are fines for non-compliance... Any link anyone can provide would be useful so I can send to my US HQ...

Cheers

Not really sure why non-Muslims should get to leave work early.

..in my case because there is no eating or dinking in the workplace - I am compelled to fast regarless of my faith. Plus all staff of all faiths have exactly the same terms and condions - which includes working hours.

I normally take work home and continue there if I need to.

We've issued a statement within our company about official hours (9-3), but we don't have any locals and only a couple of muslims. Our (mainly Flip) clerical staff will follow those times, but most of the expats will work as normal. However, interested to know if there's actually a law that will result in check and fine--anyone know for sure?

I read that by law, if you make people work outside of the 9-3 you have to pay them overtime...

Re: Ramadan to start on 11th August

There is a law (number 12 I think) that states working hours should be cut by 2 hours during ramadan. I suspect reports are stating they will be conducting more compliance checks because the fasting period is getting longer and hotter. Also given some labourer have sadly been collapsing and dying of heat stroke recently, I think any compliamce checking will be directed to workers outdoors. Thats my hunch at least...

P.s. - just found the answer - article 65. Here is the FAQ from their website
