Aww...thanks guys!
So sweet of you all, the wishes warmly received.
Hope you all are not too inconvenienced during the next month by our fasting.
Personally, I never saw the "logic" of starving people who are not fasting and don't believe in fasting, and forcing them to join in by diktat...
But then I am simple folks, what do I know!
At least, hope the non-fasting people get the shorter work hours in compensation for the starvation - but it doesn't happen like that even for us. I've spent plenty of Iftars at work in previous years, making up for colleagues who are in the office for half-a-day or less..

Things are looking bleak already. There is only one local restaurant that will deliver to my office..Its an indian takeaway..
20 guys all eating rogan Josh and madrass's...
Oh its gonna be a long smelly month..
I am of the belief, and some may quite rightly disagree, that non-muslims shouldnt need to fast (which they dont) but they should be allowed to eat and drink as normal wherever they would normally eat.
Why would it offend a muslim that a non muslim is eating? i could understand a mulsim being offended and upset at another muslim not fasting.
I appreciate the 'respect for the country you are in' line that i know will be some responses but i really dont get it.
I think it would help with a western 'warming' towards islam if one was not affected directly by anothers faith, but could learn, be intrigued and inquisitive without have to be directly involved.
I doubt many non muslims in the UAE actually look forward to the cultural enlightening of ramadan..
Just my views of surviving a few of these lovely periods of time..

A better solution might be to allow people to eat where they want, when they want. Those who choose to fast can avail themselves of the shorter work hours. Those who choose not to, carry on as normal in all aspects. At the end of the month, everybody gets a big holiday/party and is happy.

However, in many of those instances, it would be all those non-fasting Australians and Indians who'd be out of the door at 3pm sharp with the locals, whilst me and a few other fasting and non-fasting people would still be there at 6pm!
