A quick trip away for NYE
#1
So if I'm going to be here for xmas there's no way I'm paying stupid money for a meal / club / etc on NYE.
So me and mrs spugsy are thinking of heading off for 2/3 nights to celebrate NYE somewhere.
Beirut would be good but I would imagine jam packed, Thailand too far for only a short trip....any ideas of somewhere good and fun to go that's not too far away? Say 3/4 hours flight?
Ta.

Sharm or Hurghada (although you might be Egypt-ed out by then, but they're very different from Cairo)

I did New Year's in Istanbul once.
We made the mistake of heading to the most popular centre for the celebrations - Taksim Square. I had never seen any place so jam packed with people. Getting out of there felt like a life or death adventure.
But it's a brilliant city to spend a few days. Lots to do.

I can think of few things worse than a NYE party with a bunch of strangers.
Just need a few good friends & a little imagination...

It isn't essential to spend a fortune in some lousy over-priced club on NYE. Best way to celebrate is with friends. Last NYE about 40 of us got together at one house and split the cost of a fantastic meal, unlimited bar & party.

Agreed. Haven't done the hotel thing for about 15 or more years.
We always go for the friends at home night. Much more enjoyable and much better value for floose!
