My employer has just launched the 'spouse support program' ... as we travel a lot, the brown-rice-eating geniuses in HR have decided that our partners need support. This will start with 'Spouse Gatherings'

What could be worse, really? A load of women sharing war stories as to how their husbands are never there.

Meow, is this your doing?

C'mon, doing what you do you need a bit more precision. Its not for partners, its for spouses: so any of your colleagues living in sin aren't included.

That aside, I think Grouse Spathering sounds better.

Good grief, no! I think most people need to toughen up.

There is worse, imagine if you chaps are not all running with the same story of your business trips.
I predict marital strife.

It can be even worse than that...........

A mate of mine once told his wife he was 'going to the US' for a conference..... she never heard from him for nearly a week, but when he returned, she asked him how it went.
"Oh you know - usual boring stuff" he replied.
"That's strange" replied his wife. "How boring can a trip to the US be when you've left your passport in the bedroom drawer......??"

On EW a few years back a woman was posting on there about how her husband was always away and that she was sick of the Boss and how badly he was being treat, huge big thread it was, Meow may remember it. Turned out she was posting comments to the Boss's wife!! I nearly wet myself laughing when I found out

-Your employer arranging for someone from the bank (if you use the same one as them) to come into the office to sort out problems (assuming this doesn't already happen).
-Your employer arranging seminars at your office on topics like wills or financial planning (obv not from the charlatans!)
- Discounts on say, visits to specific dentist.
- Arranging collection and delivery of dry cleaning.
I get all of these with the exception of 2nd, which I would quite like, but I struggle to manage to take all the holiday entitlement I get in any case. As has been eluded to by others the 'small' benefits tend to be most appreciated or used by those lower down the pecking order. Things like all company staff and family day trips or events are frankly horrific and have me running for the hills, but for lots of my sub-continental colleagues can’t get enough of them!

As Patsy mentioned a gym in the building, healthy living/wellbeing program would be nice, with bowls of fruit etc in kitchens - but I can imagine these been emptied into some staff members bags to be taken home as quickly as they were filled up. Wee things like not being put in a hotel a 20min cab drive away from the office because its $20 a night cheaper than the one 2mins from the office, or not having to fight over flying Emirates rather than Lufthansa when I have to make a last minute trip over the weekend would be nice.

For me the general attitude of employers here (mine at least) seems to be about taking as much as they can from you and giving as little as possible (in whatever form) back, while in the UK (and I worked for the same company there) the attitude has progressed to one which really values and uses benefits to ultimately try and retain staff.
