Questions for employees (or employers)

Re: Questions for employees (or employers)
My employer has just launched the 'spouse support program' ... as we travel a lot, the brown-rice-eating geniuses in HR have decided that our partners need support. This will start with 'Spouse Gatherings'
What could be worse, really? A load of women sharing war stories as to how their husbands are never there.
Meow, is this your doing?

That aside, I think Grouse Spathering sounds better.

Good grief, no! I think most people need to toughen up.

A mate of mine once told his wife he was 'going to the US' for a conference..... she never heard from him for nearly a week, but when he returned, she asked him how it went.
"Oh you know - usual boring stuff" he replied.
"That's strange" replied his wife. "How boring can a trip to the US be when you've left your passport in the bedroom drawer......??"

Turned out she was posting comments to the Boss's wife!! I nearly wet myself laughing when I found out

-Life assurance provided and paid for by your employer (death in service benefits)
-The ability to swap additional hours of work for days off.
-The option to take a certain amount of additional leave during the year, as a 'salary swap', so essentially unpaid leave.
-Your employer arranging for someone from the bank (if you use the same one as them) to come into the office to sort out problems (assuming this doesn't already happen).
-Your employer arranging seminars at your office on topics like wills or financial planning (obv not from the charlatans!)
- Discounts on say, visits to specific dentist.
- Arranging collection and delivery of dry cleaning.

As Patsy mentioned a gym in the building, healthy living/wellbeing program would be nice, with bowls of fruit etc in kitchens - but I can imagine these been emptied into some staff members bags to be taken home as quickly as they were filled up. Wee things like not being put in a hotel a 20min cab drive away from the office because its $20 a night cheaper than the one 2mins from the office, or not having to fight over flying Emirates rather than Lufthansa when I have to make a last minute trip over the weekend would be nice.
For me the general attitude of employers here (mine at least) seems to be about taking as much as they can from you and giving as little as possible (in whatever form) back, while in the UK (and I worked for the same company there) the attitude has progressed to one which really values and uses benefits to ultimately try and retain staff.
