Confucius, I think there are three ways of looking at this.......

1) It's not a good idea
2) I wouldn't do it
3) Don't even think about it

Facebook is a spare-time hobby (as someone else said), and it would seriously diminish your professional external image in the eyes of most people who matter.

It's like having a 'hotmail' e-mail address - it's something you may use (if you insist) to keep in touch with people all over the world, but has a seriously negative professional image.

Professionally, do not touch Facebook with a disinfected barge pole.

Well, I do have a few "professional" friends in my fb list, as well as some of my students.... You can always adjust your privacy settings to control who gets to see what.

In general, i think it's best to maintain a fairly "vanilla" flavored page. So don't any of you start writing smut on my wall!!!!!

Me?Serious??? Of course I am...

I tend to show up to power meetings and lunches wearing jeans and tshirts...But never sandals and shorts though...

If you dress business, you think business.

You'll hate me for this...........

At a previous job, I cancelled the 'dress down' days because staff were clearly treating it like casually wandering in to the office on their day off. And the female staff were treating it like a beachwear fashion parade...... actually I still miss that aspect, but you get my drift.......

The stats were overwhelming - results were anything up to 30 pct poorer on dress down days. Sorted that out........

....... but I'm happy to have lunch with you in a casual fashion if it makes you happy.

We don't have any dress down days...The only way that I can actually dress down is show up without a tie on,and,a 2 day stubble...I usually don't shave if I'm going to have a meeting with a female executive person...
