Ok if I want something sent to me, bt don't have a PO Box (who does??) then what can I do? nothing??
And I'm not in perm work so can't use the work ones either, what a proper crock of shit that is - how can a country not have a bastard post service?

Do you have a residence visa? If so its actually quite painless to get a PO Box. from Emirates Post. It is an online application and took me about 2-3 days.

Nope there are post box locations all over the place. We have ours next to the Mosque behind Spinneys on Al Wasl Road. I know there is also one in Satwa and one in Barsha. Have a peek at the website as there are many more listed on there.
As another poster mentioned, I know there is also a service to get it delivered, but never used that myself.

2. Set up your own (there are PO Boxes somewhere near Lulu in Barsha)
3. Aramex Shop & Ship (set up your own or ask to use someone else's but you pay delivery costs)
4. Ask if you can send it someone else's PO Box so they can pass it on.
Plenty of choices...

New Post Office Boxes In Discovery Gardens
Post Office boxes are now available for rent in Discovery Gardens. Residents are advised lodge an application with Emirates Post.
The Discovery Gardens PO Boxes hubs are situated in two convenient locations within the community, the first one is in Mediterranean sector’s Street 2 near Building 39 and the second in Contemporary sector’s Street 6, near Building 126.
Post Office boxes are now available for rent in Discovery Gardens. Residents are advised lodge an application with Emirates Post.

If its only for the odd bit of mail and you don't want the hassle of renting, you can get it delivered to a public P.O. box and pick it up from there.
From Emirates Post website "The Public P.O. Box service allows people to give these P.O. Box numbers to their friends and relatives. When a person excepts mail, he can go to the registered mail counter at the respective post offices and ask the attendant to check if there is any mail. One can then collect the mail after paying the specified fee. "
The nearest one to Discovery Gardens would be ( I think) Jebel Ali, P.O. Box 18000. All details on webste. Link:
