Back to the Pearls of Wisdom theme...if you upset a Hummer driver in the UAE, just get out of his bloody way. Alternatively, follow him home and shoot his camel.
On the kitty issue, how about holding his/her favourite sibling in front of the shed and maybe the scent will allure him/her out. If a male kitty, you can always try dancing naked ...

Ours come running when i shake the friskeys box!
Or
Poke it with a sharp stick..it will get stuck on the end and you can then pull it out....

she's not been to the vets...had the mothers neutered or whatever the term is, had 5 kittens vaccinated and de-wormed but not the little one that got away...tried the nice smelling food and everything....of course...this morning she was outside and I could have easily picked her up...

Did you tell the kitty that he/she had to go to the vets? That might be why it hid. Also they sometimes hide up when they see the carry baskets !
My female cat spreads out her paws kicking and thrashing wildly like something out of a cartoon, as we try to put her in the carry case. The other one wanders in and sits down quite happily.
