Panama eerily emulating Dubai , on a smaller scale.
So Donald Trump opens a new Trump luxo Apartment building in Panama.
Panama's infrastructure such as drainage can not cope with the many buildings popping up.
Most of the new building appear vacant.
Well Panama has got the canal and tourism but is that enough to fill the plethora of new buildings popping up??

I would like to thank Donald Trump for coming to Panama and allowing this wonderful building to have his name," Mr Martinelli said.
"This makes Panama very proud."
Yet outside, the torrential downpour flooded the streets' overworked drainage system, turning the peninsula into a swamp island.

Even as Panama's building frenzy slows, questions remain about who is going to fill the buildings that have already been built.
Many of the new residential blocks remain mostly darkened at night, suggesting there is not a long waiting list for occupancy.

I have a client with a few plots of land there. There's definitely a market for holiday homes and US retirees. Apparently it's quite easy for Emiratis to go there too - I think they are desperate for foreign investment...like Dubai was. Let's hope they learn from Dubai's mistakes though. Panama is far more open with better weather - it could be an amazing place.

Unlike Dubai, Panamanians I have a hunch are infinitely more friendly, open and sociable than Emiratis, so that is a plus they got going for them.

Forgot about American retirees. If they can entice thousands of retirees their odds of success are pretty rosy. Compared to UAE, Panama has some beautifull scenery and diverse fauna and flora but it seems more tropical/muggy and the waters do not look as clear and sparkling like the Bahamas,Barbados, Bermuda,Antiless etc..

Let's put it this way. I've yet to hear of anyone being arrested for being pregnant out of wedlock in Panama lately, or fined for snogging their partner...who gives a damn if the waters are muggy...retirees won't be surfing for the most part. Am sure Panamanians know the meaning of work too.

A lot of former Nazi's went to South America. Trouble is I look a lot more Latin American than German...still if I talk about immigration and multiculturalism enough someone is bound to accuse me of being one - that's the apparent benchmark for being a National Socialist in the EU after all.

Panama has always had a certain allure, perhaps due to movies I've watched and books I've read. Having said that, Malindi in Kenya is full of mafioso as well..but it lacks the reputation I suppose. Perhaps Montenegro? Highest propotrion of jewel thieves apparently in the world.
And on the note of appearance..the best one I've heard so far is my buddy in New York who plays on his Puerto Rican card..even though he is Malaysian. Oh, and the missionaries tought him English and gave him a scholarship to go to the US of course...
