Thread title is a bit of a give away though?

And 4 pages would suggest the discussion went beyond the normal expressions of like / dislike...

Finally one didnt have to read the past the post where the plot discussion asked for clarification ... The comment "what hole in the plot" was akin to a

MentalMan - take it from me: there is so much in that film that Flack hasn't even scratched the surface - still definitely worth going very soon though (before the main bits of plot start leaking out).

As it's a Bond film there will be a formula. A spectacular opening, a couple of Bond women (no longer called girls), a baddie, a few exotic locations, a car chase or three, something else daring and ends with Bond vanquishing the baddie. Those are the rules!

Yes, but as someone else said, fewer Bond women/girls this time, apart from the welcome return of you-know-who of course.........

It's 2012. He's not allowed to be all 'Savile' with women any more.

Despite captainflack's whinge, I think it was a superb film in one particular way - it downplayed much of that formulaic stuff. I thought Q's line 'we don't go in for exploding pens any more' was a significant line; the film (and presumably future films) was/will be more measured somehow. The violence in Casino Royale (intended to establish his 00- credentials) has been toned down, and the whole thing reminded me as much of a Bourne film as a Bond one - which is fine by me (big fan of both).

Skyfall took the whole Bond genre, full circle, back to its roots. Look who we have now - an M, a Moneypenny and a Q........ it completes the story which started in Casino Royale (when he was basically a 'trainee'). My bags are packed, ready for the next one.........

I thought the introduction of a young modern Q was excellent. That was a good line too.

Went to see this last night, not a bad old bond romp really if slightly over long. I thought Javier Bardem was good, nice to see a three dimensional villain for a change. He stole the movie really.

A bit of editing would have worked wonders, suspension of reality aside, that whole scotland bit didn't work except for the church scene.

worth a watch really.

btw the roof top chase was one Mr Rob Herring, motocross fans might remember him from the glory days of British MX

He could have just landed, twisted his ankle and turned up back for work on Monday. This is even aside from the lack of explanation of how he fell 400ft into a river, unconscious and somehow survived.

Why did Bond, after dying, just stay in Turkey and lie low? He didn't seem to care much for his duty, he only came back because MI6 was attacked and (we find out) M is his surrogate mother figure. Fair enough, but he's done plenty of gritty and nasty things for his country even in just the last two films and I am sure he will after this film. But in this one, he only seems to care about M rather than his country/duty.

Why does the villain deliberately get himself captured by Bond and placed in a cell in MI6's new secret HQ so he can get his laptop to spring him again? What was the point of that?

His laptop opens the cell doors, but how did he fight his way out past armed security guards?

Bond gets Q to lay a trail for the baddie to follow to his ancestral home in Scotland, so he, M and his old gamekeeper can take on the baddie and his legions of tooled-up armed thugs with some Macgyver style improvised bombs and an old shotgun on two. Why not get Q to send in a helicopter or two of ninja-trained commandos to help him out?

Bond has the old goldfinger 60s Aston, complete with ejector seat and machine guns, in a lock up garage. How and why does he have this? It wouldn't have been his contemporary car in this reboot (he's too young), so why does he have it or have access to it?

You could maybe overlook these points if it had brilliant iconic stunts or scenes, but there was nothing in this film that will be remembered.
Like someone else said Bond films are not documentaries. Everything doesn't need to be explained nor make sense, in fact the questions and unbelievability makes it more exciting. You are of course entitled to your opinion, but you are part of a minority who didn't like Skyfall.

If you wonder why Bond decided to stay dead then maybe you need to watch Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace again.

As for stunts then maybe you should go back and check the bike scene on the roof of the souq. It was covered in a Top Gear special about James Bond cars lately...

It was a film of two parts. The standard fare in the first part, and then into something that was about age, mortality and the killer instinct. That was quite interesting. And even if people think it was overly long, the time just passed, with only one moment where I lost interest and questioned why I was still sitting there.

Er... no. He just survived because he's er... quite a hardnut and pretty lucky.

The whole episode of his death was totally pointless from the plot point of view. You Only Live Twice did it all much better.

What a total let down. Never thought I'd say it, but I'd sooner see a Irish bloke with an invisible Aston than this sentimental pile of crap.
Totally Agree. Dragged to the cinema to see it last night!
In the words of Catherine Tate's Nan character "What a load of old shit"!

Astonishing posts here............ my son saw it in central London, in a packed cinema, and said there was even some cheering and applause at the end (in a cinema??). And audible gasps when M died.
