"[On 7th June 2017] Renewables alone – wind, solar, biomass and hydro – also set another record for generation, reaching about 18.7 gigawatts at the same time. This represented about 50.7 per cent of demand, and is enough to supply about 13.5 million homes with electricity."

Doesn't matter now, the UK is locked in to a contract to guarantee future prices.

Re the new Hinkley Point, well I've just watched The Simpsons and realised it's a load of bollocks. Who would put a load of funny yellow people in charge of running a nuclear power station?

Well done, you've combined abject racism with fake facts. Whilst admittedly your post is in The Sand Pit, racist and inaccurate posts add ****-all to the debate, and say nothing about the situation but a lot about you.

The whole world will break a contract. Except the UK.
We could learn a thing or two from the Chinese. Wiggle our way out of the contract no matter how blatant it is and if they protest just point at what they're doing with the HK treaty....

Usual script in the construction industry: Contractor underprices several projects in order to survive, things go horribly wrong, goes into administration, quickly followed by liquidation, quickly followed by a fire sale of any assets, which are bought by a new company with a similar sounding name and a similar senior management team, who then tender to complete the original projects, which are now massively over budget and two years late.
Clients realise that they are left holding the bag, once that the lawyers for the Administrator point out that the Performance Bonds that said Clients paid for, and the Parent Company Guarantees that they thought were in place, are not worth the paper that they are written on.

I cite Carillion and HS2 as a prime example, your honour.
In all my time in construction I have never experienced an instruction to under-price fixed price contracts, perhaps in re-measurable works with the scope for variations there are guys going in on zero margin for turnover but certainly not under any fixed circumstances.
