Nelson Mandela
I know it's one day early, but I'm on the move tomorrow and may not get time to post this, but Africa's elder statesman turns 90 tomorrow, which I thought was worth a mention.
Although I wish he'd use his influence more to curb Mugabe, he has undoubtedly made one of the most remarkable transformations in political history. From self-avowed terrorist to one of the most respected inhabitants the planet has ever seen...... quite an achievement.
His famous quote, spoken from the dock during the Rivonia Trial in 1963, seems just as powerful today:
"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."
Happy birthday, Nelson.

Yes - but that would diminish NM......
For a guy who once planted a bomb in a children's clothes shop, his rehabilitation has been astonishing.

Re: Nelson Mandela
You can't say stuff like that. It's nearly as bad as revealing the not so saintly side of Mother Theresa or the Dalai Lama! We all have to believe Mr. Mandela is just about the best thing since free speech....I mean look at how wonderful South Africa is now thanks to people like him
