my lovely neighbours
My neighbours are a local family, who i must say have been ever so pleasant since we moved in. Thier children are so well behaved and always say hello as do the parents on the odd occassion that we meet at our front door.
They know that i am now alone for a few months, and how nice is this..
last week the little girl came with the maid to my front door with a massive fruit arrangement for me.
Just a minute ago the doorbell went, and when i answered (albeit slightly pissed off at someone at my door at 1030pm) it was the little girl and the maid with a plate of hot cross buns, piping hot with the best cinnamon taste ever..
What great neighbours, but what can i do in return, to show my gratitude as they have been so lovely..
1. Cook something---probably result in poisoning..
2. errr cant think of anything else.
maybe a gift from scotland?
any suggestions (preferably sensible ones)

A Gift from Scotland? Hmmm, I don't think Haggis, Shortbread, Scotch, Tablet, Macaroon Bars, Irn Bru etc will quite cut it. (It would work for me though!!)
Flowers area good bet - so long as the man of the house doesnt think you are making a play for his Mrs. Sweeties for the kids.
Or, they do these very nice wooden boxes full or Arabian sweets (they're a bit like baklava). An Emerati guy at work brough some in when his kid was born - they are seen as being 'special'.
Brilliant that you have good neighbours - makes all the difference eh?

Hot cross buns?? Originally introduced to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ??? A gift from a 'local' family (Muslims, presumably)???
I'll issue a fatwa against them...........

Big tartan tin of Shortbread ...everyone likes shortbread....
From your wife when she gets home as a thankyou for looking out for you!
Unless your wife has already paid the little girl and maid to spy on you....
