Apart from The Blues Brothers, the mind boggles.

Opera and Ballet, as well. What the f*** are they all about?

Would anyone class The Commitments as a musical? But have to agree, generally musicals a right crock of s.hite.

Apart from Oliver.

Love The Blues Brothers, fantastic sound track, as is The Commitments.

My step daughter is somewhat obsessed withy Beyonce - you know, teenage girls have their role models and all that - forced me to sit through Dream Girls.Never have I heard so many songs in one film - it really did do my head in.

How can anyone possibly not like opera.......the mind boggles

(ok ok so musicals are modern opera and opera was/is musicals, blah blah, yet to hear/see a good "musical" though)

Why does every opera include some bloke (who's recently been dumped by his girlfriend) reading out loud a letter from his mum?

OMG I just LOVE Moulin Rouge - one of the best movies ever . . . Bugsy is a great kids movie too.

The first film I ever saw at the cinema was The Sound of Music (showing my age now!) and it was also the first time I ever went on a train. FWIW:)

Me and The Girlies love ballet - Swan Lake is beautiful and even the all male version is fantastic! I remember my great aunt taking me to the premiere of the film version the Beatix Potter ballet in London and I was quite entranced. She also took me to see The Black & White Minstral Show, which is probably banned forever and looked upon with horror as the epitomy of political incorrectness

Opera is wonderful - Carmen is fab.

And I love a good musicals Westside Story, Chicago, Caberet, Oliver, Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar, Moulin Rouge, Evita, Lion King, Billy Liar, South Pacific, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oaklahoma

Bit worried about the Little One's choice musical viewing at the moment - High School Musical and Hair with the really 'rude song' as she puts it!

I reckon part of it is some kind of inverse snobbery and part a lack of understanding. To a generation brought up with pop music, opera takes a while to 'get'.

Like any musical genre though, you don't have to like it all. I am not a huge Wagner fan for example, but like Puccini and Verdi. Same with ballet. The classics are OK, but I love modern ballet.

I like many classic musicals like Singing in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, but Moulin Rouge was unbearable (IMO).

I always thought the Teletubbies songs were brilliant.

Some day they will be viewed as classics in the same light as Nesan Dorma.

Loved Oliver as a kid. Still know all the words to the songs. Thought Annie was a bit pathetic.

Also throughly enjoyed Phantom of the Opera.

I like all three, although being a bit of a pleb I like musicals the most.

I was obsessed by Phantom as a teen; everyone else listed to NKOTB.
I listened to Michael Crawford.

I think ballet is amazing; the sheer athleticism of it astounds me.

I can barely turn a dodgy pirouette, so hats off to them I say!
