Tonight is the 70th anniversary of the raid on Nuremburg that was the single most costly in the war with Bomber Command losing 106 aircraft and 545 aircrew.
I'm raising a glass to these gentlemen.

My grandfather was a pilot with No. 106 Squadron RAF and he flew on this raid amongst many others. Due to the heavy losses during the RAF's Battle of Berlin he and his crew were the first in 106 Sqn for 18 months to complete a full tour of 30 operations. He also won the DFC during this period. All at the age of 23. Pause for thought. I was barely able to wash my own clothes at that age.
