25 years as an expat and married for the second time . First one bit the dust due to after curriculum activities of the adult kind on her side .

Brutal messy divorce which cost me a lot of money but cowboys don't cry as they say at the ranch

Ok I get the point....

I am in a situation where I am working as expat and my other half stayed at home...

Any experience in that scenario?

We did it for 8 years. Already married for quite a few years before the overseas job. It worked well for us. I was kept very busy attending to our 4 children. We didn't want to uproot them so I stayed home.

We were always on the same page in that respect and thank goodness for new technologies as we could communicate effectively through the Internet on a daily basis. That kept us sane.

In the beginning he was visiting us and then we reversed the arrangement as the children became teenagers/adult and I could leave them for short periods of time.

I think it depends on the type of work you're doing too. Most of the time my husband was on site on long duration projects.

Unfortunately our time in the magic kingdom came to an abrupt end as projects got cancelled due to the fall in oil prices.

Now we're working on being a couple again. Not going to lie, I enjoyed my bit of independence for a time and taking up all the bed to myself.
